Although you can purchase tamales year-round, we’ve been told that eating them with a cup of hot chocolate is one way to celebrate the new year in Colombia. 

Gerson, our present Sunday school teacher at Iglesia Cristiana Gracia y Amor, gave us a tamale tolimense after church yesterday. This afternoon I steamed it while heating up some milk for hot chocolate.

Most people don’t make them at home; it takes a lot of time. Maybe that’s why they are considered special.
